Facilities and Accommodations at Suan Mokkh International Dharma Hermitage

Suan Mokkh International Dharma Hermitage offers modest accommodations for visitors seeking a serene environment for meditation and spiritual growth. The hermitage is situated 1.5km east of the main monastery, Wat Suan Mokkh.

The accommodations are designed to encourage simplicity and mindfulness, with basic facilities provided for retreat participants. Each individual is provided with a small private room, equipped with a wooden bed, straw mat, and mosquito net. Shared bathroom facilities, including cold water showers, are available for all participants.

In addition to the accommodations, the hermitage features several communal spaces for meditation, learning, and reflection. These include the Spiritual Theatre, an assembly hall shaped like a ship, and a foreign library with books on meditation, Buddhism, and related topics in various languages. The hermitage also offers 10-day silent retreats with meditation and Dharma instruction in English, attracting over 1,000 visitors annually.

Suan Mokkh International Dharma Hermitage Philosophy

Suan Mokkh International Dharma Hermitage, founded by Venerable Ajahn Buddhadasa, emphasizes mindfulness and meditation. We provide 10-day silent retreats, attracting over 1,000 foreigners annually, with instructions in English. Our teachings focus on meditation techniques and Dharma principles.

The hermitage is located 1.5km east of the main monastery, Wat Suan Mokkh, which houses various facilities such as the Spiritual Theatre, assembly hall, foreign library, and sculpture workshop. The library offers books on meditation, Buddhism, and related topics in multiple languages.

Our retreats begin on the 1st of each month, with registration in person on the last day of the previous month. We do not offer advance booking, shorter or longer retreats, or partial retreat participation. Retreats conclude on the 11th day of the month.

Visitors are welcome to practice at the main monastery between retreats. Since 1989, approximately 25,000 people from diverse backgrounds and ages have participated in our monthly meditation retreats, fostering a global community of mindfulness practitioners.
